My approach as a psychotherapist is collaborative.
I conduct therapy in English and Spanish.
By creating an empathic space for self-reflection and self-acceptance, I help individuals develop healthy relationships with themselves and others. I promote safety, transparency, and tools to empower in all areas of life with an increased capacity for self-expression and creativity. Together, we identify your unique strengths and solutions that will support you in creating the life you want and deserve.
I am a graduate of New York University Silver School of Social Work. I currently hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) and am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) certified practitioner and utilize a Compassionate Inquiry approach. I am a trauma-informed clinician working through a structural family and ecological systems perspective. I use the science-informed Polyvagal Theory in helping my clients learn and understand their own nervous system survival responses, and their ability to safely connect with other people. Using structured psychoeducation and exercises, clients learn tools to help them manage mood states, relational difficulties, symptoms of anxiety and depression, and other manifestations of past relational and event traumas.
I have completed the MAPS-Certified MDMA-Assisted Therapy Practitioner training program. I offer psychedelic preparation and integration.and am passionate about the process of integrating plant medicine experiences and bringing their teaching/insights into our modern lives to help us live in healthier spaces. I have experience in working with non-ordinary states of consciousness and spend time in Peru, my country of origin, facilitating ayahuasca and plant medicine retreats. I am passionate about the protection of sacred plants and cultural traditions.
I have experience working with individuals experiencing various forms of trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), dissociation, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, grief/loss as well as couples, family conflict and young adults.
Currently I offer sessions at my office in the Union Square area (New York City) and online via doximity.com (a HIPAA-compliant platform).
I have a strong personal and professional belief in our capacity for inner strength and resilience. People can grow and transcend most any wounds with the right support from others. Access to this healing is sometimes blocked by negative and destructive patterns that are formed when we need to adapt and survive an overwhelming or traumatic experience. Together we can change this.
Land Acknowledgment
I, Camila Pastor, stand in honor of the first people and our ancestors. I acknowledge the land on which my office stands—the original homeland of the Lenape people– and the painful history of genocide and forced removal from this territory. I honor the generations of stewards, and I pay my respects to the many diverse Indigenous peoples still connected to this land.
